Obedience does not always produce the fruit we want to see, yet we are called to be obedient. Let’s take the example of Kim Davis. Many are very aware about the Kentucky Clerk that has been refusing to issue marriage licenses due to her convictions in regards to Homosexual Marriage. She stood up in obedience to her God, she was threatened, smeared throughout the news, and even thrown in jail. This is not a new reality. History shows us that it has been done many times before.
The world has been pushing for political correctness. One of the greatest manifestations of “Political Correctness” is the false reality of Equality. We live in a world where there is a push for Homosexuals to be able to marry and yet a push to kill children in the womb…all for the sake of equality and rights. Where is the equality in that?
Two days ago, this headline popped up on my phone: OFFICE DEPOT REFUSES TO PRINT COPIES OF PRO-LIFE PRAYER. Office Depot perceived the copies to be of ‘Hate Speech’. Office Depot doubled down the next day…needless to say a few larger News outlets like LifeNews started to run with the story, it even made an appearance on Drudge Report. The backlash became so apparent that finally Office Depot backed down and their CEO had to step in and release a statement on Friday.
About a year ago the Houston Mayor came under fire for wanting to do this: Houston subpoenas pastors’ sermons in gay rights ordinance case. All in the Name of Equal Rights and Political Correctness. Two weeks later the Mayor Finally caved: Mayor’s decision to drop subpoenas.
Look at the leap in just a 13 short months! We go from Houston Mayor trying to enforce a politically correct ordinance and backing down, to a woman being thrown in jail in Kentucky.
Political Correctness is a direct assault on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Gospel is anything but Political Correctness! You cannot deny the loving nature of the Gospel, despite the fact that many call it hate driven. The Gospel of Jesus is all about a Man giving up His life for the sake of all…there is no greater love then a man who lays down his own life for the guilty.
The Coming Slaughter…
I have been reading through 1 Samuel, and the other day I was reading chapter 21 and 22. I had a very clear sense that what I was reading was in many ways, going to be our story…
We see David has been chased by King Saul, Saul was a mad man driven by a tormenting spirit. He had set his heart towards killing David (David was the next anointed King of Israel) Saul did not want to lose control or his power. David, despite becoming very close to Saul and his family, was a threat.
In 1 Samuel 21, David snuck out to go see Ahimelech the priest, where he was given Goliath’s sword. And ended up sneaking into the caves of Adullam.
And then this happens:
9 Then Doeg the Edomite, who was standing there with Saul’s men, spoke up. “When I was at Nob,” he said, “I saw the son of Jesse talking to the priest, Ahimelech son of Ahitub. 10 Ahimelech consulted the LORD for him. Then he gave him food and the sword of Goliath the Philistine.” 11 King Saul immediately sent for Ahimelech and all his family, who served as priests at Nob. – 1Sa 22:9-11 NLT
Saul finds out that Ahimelech helped David, so Saul sent for them immediately…
12 When they arrived, Saul shouted at him, “Listen to me, you son of Ahitub!” “What is it, my king?” Ahimelech asked. 13 “Why have you and the son of Jesse conspired against me?” Saul demanded. “Why did you give him food and a sword? Why have you consulted God for him? Why have you encouraged him to kill me, as he is trying to do this very day?”…15 This was certainly not the first time I had consulted God for him! May the king not accuse me and my family in this matter, for I knew nothing at all of any plot against you.” 16 “You will surely die, Ahimelech, along with your entire family!” the king shouted. 17 And he ordered his bodyguards, “Kill these priests of the LORD, for they are allies and conspirators with David! …But Saul’s men refused to kill the LORD’s priests. 18 Then the king said to Doeg, “You do it.” So Doeg the Edomite turned on them and killed them that day, eighty-five priests in all, still wearing their priestly garments. 19 Then he went to Nob, the town of the priests, and killed the priests’ families–men and women, children and babies–and all the cattle, donkeys, sheep, and goats. 20 Only Abiathar, one of the sons of Ahimelech, escaped and fled to David. – 1Sa 22:12-20 NLT
I tell you, there is a coming slaughter of the Priests and Prophetic Voices. When the enemy comes in like a flood, God raises up a standard! But evil will rage against that standard. God’s standard are His children, shedding light in a very dark and perverse world.
True equality can only be found in the Gospel of Jesus. The false Equality that the world tries to enforce is not true equality. You cannot pass the equality of one people group, without denying the equality and freedoms of another.
