Forsaking God’s First Command

The very first words ever spoken to humanity, and they were from God…

Be Fruitful And Multiply

We live in a day when almost all have forsaken this command…

27 So God created man in His [own] image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” – Gen 1:27-28 NKJV

This history of humanity proves we do not have an issue with the latter of God’s first command…subdue and have dominion over the earth.  Some might even argue that we have fulfilled and are fulfilling the first, be fruitful and multiply, after all many argue we have a population control issue on this planet.

Many times the fruit points directly back to the root.  You know it is an apple tree because it produces apples, you know its a rose bush because it produces roses.

The #1 statistical proof that we have forsaken God’s First Command:

57 Million Abortion’s in the United States of America since 1973

The number is actually much higher, the leading researcher Guttmacher Institute states that they under report up to 3% not to mention the abortionists and abortions that do not get reported.

The other damning statistic:

Out of about 62 Million women of childbearing age (15-44) in the United States, 70% are ‘at risk for unintended pregnancy’ (sexually active)

  • More than 99% of women aged 15–44 who have ever had sexual intercourse have used at least one contraceptive method.
  • Some 62% of all women of reproductive age are currently using a contraceptive method.

So what is the issue of using contraceptives/birth control?  We were never meant to exercise “family planning”.  The command of God was NOT “be fruitful and multiply when you think you are ready”.  The command was “Be Fruitful and Multiply“.

In all reality, “unintended pregnancy” should not even be a concept we should know or use in the Church.

God commanded sexual relations in the context of a marriage between a man and a woman, not to unmarried individuals.

In unmarried sexual partners, birth control is mostly used because they do not want to deal with the consequences of sex…pregnancy

There is a reason why God ordained sexual relations in the context of marriage.

For a Christian couple, married or not, there is no Biblical reason for the use of Birth Control.

Birth control and abortion are the fruit of a root of selfish self-centeredness.  If honest with one’s self, the reason for not wanting children is all about you.  Your wants and desires do not line up with God’s Commands and so your wants and needs trump the heart of God.

Abortion and Birth Control are rooted in the very same reality…an Unwanted Child.

19 “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches [them], he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. … 21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 “But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire. Mat 5:19, 21-22 NKJV

It is all about the heart!  What is the truest posture of your heart and do your choices reflect it?

How long will the Shepherds of God’s Sheep council and not condone a behavior that is in direct enmity with God?  How long will we be unloving by steering followers of Jesus away from the Heart and Commands of God?
