The greatest lie we can believe is, “God is our Father and He will forgive us because He loves us.” For if this is true, then Jesus death and resurrection would be unnecessary. This lie has diluted the very foundation of the need for salvation.
The truth is, God could never forgive sin without the death of His Son, Jesus. If God could acquit us of all the sin in our lives at any point in time, because He loves, God would cease being Holy. His Holiness demands perfection. Without Jesus’ death there is no hope.
I have always struggled with the fact that today is known as Good Friday, because in all reality there is not much good about it. It is my opinion that that we should call it Black Friday, but I know that they will probably not rewrite all of church history to accommodate that opinion. Very rarely view violence and death as a ‘good’ thing, it is a very foreign concept and view.
We must not forget what Jesus went through! This reality, should root you and ground you in the severity of sin, and the fact that our sin is what caused every lash, every blow, and every nail.
Jesus hates the sin in people, and Calvary is the measure of His hatred towards it!
Today is only good, because of these words that Jesus uttered as His last breath:
30 He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. – Jhn 19:30 NKJV
