Reckless Abandonment

There is a phrase that makes it’s rounds in the body of the church, and it is one of the greatest lies ever spoken over a believer.

You are so heavenly minded, you are no earthly good.

Many times this phrase is used to calm down a young over zealous person.  Many leaders have it in their back pocket when they believe that someone is too sold out for Christ.  Or even others use it because they feel conviction based on how someone else is walking out their faith.

If as a Christ Follower, Jesus is to be our example, the religious leaders, and Jesus’ own people hated Him!  Why?  He was so heavenly minded!  Everything that He said or did was because His Father showed Him!

19 So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing. In fact, the Father will show him how to do even greater works than healing this man. Then you will truly be astonished. – Jhn 5:19-20 NLT

Jesus was completely heavenly minded!  Everything that Jesus said or did was out of overflow from being so heavenly minded. The truth is, if you are so consumed by heavenly things, all of it will overflow into the earth around you.  Jesus was the most practical Man that has ever walked the earth.  He had the greatest ministry of all time!

1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.

2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. – Col 3:1-3 NLT

Do not let the wisdom of man trump the wisdom of God in your life!  Many times the wisdom of man is in direct conflict with the wisdom of heaven.

18 Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. …

20 And again, “The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise; he knows they are worthless.”

21 So don’t boast about following a particular human leader. For everything belongs to you– …

23 and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God. – 1Co 3:18, 20-21, 23 NLT

As a Follower of Jesus, you are called to live a life of Reckless Abandonment!

When you stand before God, He will not say, “You have given me too much of yourself.”
