We do not act like it, but we are very fragile beings. If one thing goes wrong in our bodies we could quickly be on our way to meet our Maker. From a young age we are taught we need 3 things to service:
If those three things are covered than we have a chance to make it. The basics for all life. Even today in a First World Country people strive and have much anxiety about at least one of these things.
There is a great show on TV called Dual Survival. There is this gentleman by the name of Matt, he has lived the hunter gather lifestyle in the high deserts of the United States for a long period of time. Something he always talks about is wanting to understand and thrive in the same conditions much of the native people had. That in all reality, in nature all of your needs are met, and you can not just survive, but thrive. It is all about perspective!
God is the Most Faithful being you will ever encounter! Remember the story in Genesis 22 where God told Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac? Abraham had a trusted history with God and knew God to be his provider.
7 Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?” 8 “God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together. …
13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son.
14 Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the LORD will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” – Gen 22:7-8, 13-14 NLT
Our greatest need is not in light of the physical things around us, it is a deeply inward thing. We need something or someone to save us from ourselves. When it is all said and done, when the race is done, it will not matter if you had the three basic necessities to survive. All that will matter is you standing before an All Holy, Perfect Being and He will see all of your sin. Your lying, cheating, stealing, envy, jealousy, covetousness, immorality…it will not matter how many good things you have done, those will far be out weighed by your imperfections, shortcomings, and sins. You are eternally separated from the Most Loving Being ever known.
He loves you so much, He supplied the most Perfect Provision, a spotless lamb, His son Jesus, who lived a perfect life because you could not. Only to be beaten, spit on, whipped, and murdered on an old wooden cross. Just like in Genesis 22, God provided a Perfect Sacrifice, the Perfect Provision.
It is not enough to simply acknowledge that there was a Perfect Provision made for you, you must receive it.
