I had the amazing privilege a few years back of working with a very loving and humble man, he oversees and leads a very large ministry. This ministry can attract a very specific type of people, and yet God is always faithful to bring the entire body together, from every walk of life.
He told this story:
We were in a meeting in Southern California, I had just finished preaching and we held an altar call. This young gal came down for prayer, and she fell to the ground and started to shake. A few leaders came up to me and said, “We need to do something, we need to cast the demons out of her!” To which I responded, “I don’t feel like we are suppose to intervene.”
It is amazing what people will say and do when you disagree. They looked at me with a questioning look and insisted we lay hands on her, but they ultimately submitted and agreed not to intervene. Let me make this very clear, she was shaking very violently.
After she had stopped shaking one of our leaders spoke with her and asked what had happened, she said, “I have suffered from Scoliosis my whole life. I felt like I should come down for prayer, but I didn’t even make it all the way down to the altar. I fell to the ground and started shaking. When it was all over, I got up and my back is completely healed!”
God is the great Chiropractor! He shook that girls Scoliosis out of her!
This story came to mind while I was reading Hebrews 12 this morning:
26 whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” 27 Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God [is] a consuming fire. – Heb 12:26-29 NKJV
Perspective is Everything!
When shaking comes into our lives, and those lives around us we must always maintain a proper perspective! That perspective must be Heaven’s perspective. Remember, shaking comes to remove all things that are not of God. Can it be terrifying, yes, but only if you do not have the proper perspective.
Shaking should be approached with a certain joy. Knowing that God will remove what He needs to remove in our lives through that shaking! God will not always cause the shaking, but He will use it!
Fear comes when we think we may miss out on something or when we have put too much value into something that does not deserve it. Are you so attached to the things in your life that if shaking came you would not be utterly devastated and burdened with ungodly fear?
This is probably one of the hardest things to learn. It can turley only be learned by experience. Find hope in God. Place your complete trust in Him. Only through Him and by Him may you truly find peace, even when everything around you is crumbling to the ground! Allow the shaking to drive you into His arms and not out of His presence!
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we may boldly say: “The LORD [is] my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” … 8 Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday, today, and forever. – Heb 13:5-6, 8 NKJV
