Political Correctness and the Church

I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican.

I stand for Truth. I stand for Love. I stand for Justice.  Both sides of the political aisle declare they do the same, the manifestations of and how it plays out are two different things indeed!  Both political parties have some good…both political parties have a lot of bad…

I am a follower of Jesus.  His Truth is my litmus test, it is my example, it is my life.  The central reality of the Gospel is a transformed life.  One cannot truly encounter the Heart and Presence of God and not be transformed, if even for a moment.  If this is true for the individual who follows Jesus, then should it not also be true for the large group (Church) that follows Jesus?

The Church is not Republican!  The Church is not Democrat!  The Church is Christianity! (little Christs)

So than, if we are transformed by God, why do we forsake His truth for the sake of being Politically Correct?  Why do we go our of our way to twist, turn, bend over backwards to not be like Jesus?  Jesus was the least politically correct person in all of human history!

Submission by Fear.  We as a church in America have valued our 501(C)3 status’ higher than our value for Truth and Jesus.  It is not about an earthly endorsement.  It is about a Heavenly Declaration against anti-biblical laws and candidates.

I constantly hear church folk complain about the political atmosphere.  If the church acted like the church, it would influence the culture around it thus influencing the political landscape!

Separation of Church and State:

The reality of this statement is one of the biggest misconceptions in the church and outside of the church.  Tho this phrase does not exist in this exact statement above, the principle is in the Constitution.  Forget a moment about the letter between Thomas Jefferson and the Danbury Baptist.  Take a look at why the Constitution has Religious Freedom Crafted into it.

The Colonies were trying to break free from England, where in fact, the State is the Church and the Church is the State.  The Framers of the Constitution wanted to guarantee that the reality in England would not become the reality of the United States of America.  They wanted to make sure the State could not impose, impede, or interfere with a mans relationship with his/her God.  That is Religious Freedom.

The Wall of Separation:

The wall of Separation was created to keep the State/Government hands out of the Church, not the Church out of the State/Government.  Not to mention Thomas Jefferson’s letter was written a couple decades after the Constitution was signed!

The Nature of the Gospel of Jesus Christ:

The very nature of the Gospel is to bring transformation.  It is in very nature something that infiltrates and takes over.  Just look at the book of Acts.  Followers of Jesus turned the known world upside down, they became a threat to the powers that be, and so the powers that be tried to eradicate them. If the church thrives because of resistance than it dies by conforming.  The religious devout will always be at enmity to the controlling powers, mostly because the religious devout do not live for the State or those who control the State, but rather to their God.

And so if the State can control the means in which we can follow our God, they can control us.

2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. – Rom 12:2 NLT

or better known

2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what [is] that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. – Rom 12:2 NKJV

Jesus said:

34 “Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword. 35 ‘I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. – Mat 10:34-35 NLT

Jesus, I ask that you would come and speak to our hearts regarding this matter.  Would you reveal to us our false mindsets and free us from fear surrounding this issue.  Would you raise up a people to fight for their freedoms granted not just by You, but by our Constitution!  In Jesus Name

There are two excellent books on the topics of Religion in America as it pertains to Government.  The author has not asked me to endorse these books, I have simply found them to be well articulated and a great resource.
