Depravity, Agony, and the Cry of Our Hearts

The reality of Human Depravity…

Word Cloud

Human Depravity is a cancer that invades every area of humanity.  The cancer entered space and time when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s Command in the Garden.  The manifestation of Depravity is seen in many different ways.  It affects all, directly and indirectly.

And then there is Agony:

-extreme and generally prolonged pain; intense physical or mental suffering

One could imagine the Agony that Human Depravity can impose upon an individual, family, city, or nation.  Human depravity is the root issue to the reality of agony.  After all the original sin by Adam and Eve opened the floodgates. Because of this, sickness, poverty, death, hate, it all comes from our depravity and it produces agony.  The sad reality of agony is that it can drive you into a deep and dark place where depression can take root and overcome.

For someone whom has had to deal with the anguish of agony they understand the weight it carries…

35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind beggar was sitting beside the road. 36 When he heard the noise of a crowd going past, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him that Jesus the Nazarene was going by. 38 So he began shouting, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” – Luk 18:35-38 NLT

Could you imagine being in this beggar’s shoes?  He has clearly heard about the amazing things that Jesus has been doing, he cannot see, but he can hear.  The large crowd is approaching and he calls out to ask what is going on, oblivious that Jesus is coming.  And then REALITY hits, Jesus is coming.  The answer to his life of agony is coming, but how will Jesus see him with the large crowd?  He begins to SHOUT!

39 “Be quiet!” the people in front yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” – Luk 18:39 NLT

Those around Him, they did not understand what the blind beggar was going through…they could see…they had not experienced the agony this man has experienced, so in their eyes, they did not even think he was worth the time of Jesus…so they yelled at him to be quiet.

But the beggars agony was so great and the hope of what might be, began to rise up.  It only caused him to yell even louder.

40 When Jesus heard him, he stopped and ordered that the man be brought to him. As the man came near, Jesus asked him,

41 “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord,” he said, “I want to see!”

42 And Jesus said, “All right, receive your sight! Your faith has healed you.” 43 Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus, praising God. And all who saw it praised God, too. – Luk 18:40-43 NLT

Friends, when you cry out to Jesus, HE HEARS YOUR CRY!  Not only does He hear, HE RESPONDS TO YOUR CRY!  Not only does He Respond to your cry, HE MEETS YOUR NEED!

No matter the agony in your life, no matter how dark your days may become, surly there is a God that will meet you.  He only requires one thing… Cry out to Him…Never stop crying out to Him!
