Radical Obedience: The expectation
Something that has been in my heart since the day I met Jesus, is the reality of what many might call Radical Obedience. The reality is however, that it is only Radical in the eyes of those whom don’t understand the Call of Jesus. The call of being a Follower, a Disciple of Jesus Christ.
“Only he who believes is obedient, and only he who is obedient believes.“
When the gracious call of Jesus comes to a man to leave all behind to follow Him, it has crossed over the line into the reality of something more than a mere option or good idea. The commands of Jesus become just that, a command. A stern reality: ‘DO THIS!’ , ‘LEAVE THAT BEHIND!’ , ‘GIVE UP THAT IN YOUR LIFE!’, ‘GET OUT OF THE BOAT!’.
We must remember that Jesus IS LORD. He IS Master. The Call of a Disciple of Jesus is to leave everything behind. To follow the example of the disciples in the New Testament. When Jesus called to the fisherman to ‘Come. Follow me.’ They had to make a decision. 1) stay in the safety of the boat and continue in day to day life, or 2) Get out of the boat and follow.
Once we make that decision to Follow Jesus, we become His disciples. A disciple must obey. IF you believe in Jesus then you will be obedient to His command.
Jesus has spoken clearly. It is time for us to obey. This is the expectation of being a Follower of Jesus.
“”When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.”
